Re-established in 1978 as a nonprofit educational organization, a re-established military unit and historical organization, the present day Sheldon's Horse is dedicated to giving the public a glimpse of cavalry life during the American Revolution. In portraying this facet of the 18th Century, the unit sets a high standard of authenticity in uniforms and equipment, drill and maneuvers of that time period while performing many modern day services and ceremonies for federal, state, local, military agencies.
Whether it's bringing educational programs to the public schools, supporting civic events or participating in the occasional reenactments, Sheldon's strives to impart to the public an understanding of the sacrifices made by past Americans and the conditions under which they lived. We hope to give a sense of history and pride of country to children and adults alike.
Sheldon's Horse, Second Continental Light Dragoons is a member or affiliated regiment of the following living history umbrella organizations:
The present Second Dragoons is currently led by Sal Tarantino. We are a family oriented organization. We encourage new recruits to join us in serving our America Heritage and to serve as either mounted or dismounted troopers. See our requirements under our Enlistment section. Family members are encouraged to take an active part in the cavalry camp life. If you would rather participate than observe, have a sense of history and a sense of tradition, and are dedicated to our American culture then Sheldon's Horse, Second Continental Light Dragoons could be the service unit for you.
For further information about the unit, or to find out how to make us a part of your educational event, please feel free to contact us.
